Costa Rica is bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. The Pacific and Atlantic oceans form coastlines to the west and east. Fifty percent of the population, which totals less than four million, lives in urban settings. About one million people reside in the capital of San Jose, which is located in the central valley of the country.
